Assessment Point Configuration
The Assessment Point functionality in edge enables setting up periods of time within which any data entered on an assessment can be compared with another time period(s) later in the year. An assessment point is required for the latest analysis functionality. Data can be entered and analysed outside of this time, but specific functionality has been included in edge to enhance the tracking of data entered within the assessment points. See other new functionality in this area. *Note that all results entered within the assessment period will show in analysis - including those for leavers
For the latest analysis tracking functionality, assessment points need to be set up. These can be entered after the data has been entered - even if the data is for a previous year. Each national assessment can have its own assessment points, and these can vary in length and be named as your school requires. For example for PAT Listening you could configure a two week block at the end of February, another two week block in May, and a third in November. The Cohort Tracking functionality then brings this data together in a meaningful way as a table or graph along with gender and ethnicity filtering. Assessment point now allow separate assessment points for different year levels.
To be able to configure assessment points (date ranges)
Configuring assessment points for your students in the Achievement> Assessment > Achievement area currently requires having edge Group Leader user responsibility.
- When configuring assessments, assessment points are now automatically added to provide a greater range of analysis options for the entered data. These Assessment Points can be edited by the Assessment Co-ordinator.
Grids have drawn together the entering and analysis for tracking your students, with your class(es) on the left, and if you have Group Leader user responsibility, you'll be able to see all classes and individual groups, including co-curricular, for analysing data against a specific group. Below these for overall analysis are group, year, and whole school options. Setting up of the assessment points is displayed at the bottom of this navigation.
What's available?
PAT and writing assessments (together with many more) are available, with your data already there; and more being added regularly, including e-asTTle sortable table for Class. With Group Leader edge responsibility in addition to Teacher, from the Curriculum menu in edge you'll access the Assessment Configuration on the left for setting up the assessments. Staff with the Assessment Co-ordinator user responsibility can access this functionality via Achievement > Assessment > Achievement .
By default the current year displays, and assessment points can be set up at the same time for more than one year, eg. going into next; or retrospectively because the assessment points enable tracking of data over time.
It's important to note that your assessment data is available, and results can be entered, before assessment points are set up. However, for edit and delete functionality, or analysis of any existing assessment mark, assessment points must have been set up.
To set up an assessment (eg. PAT Listening)
From the Listening heading, click on the chevron on the right of PAT (Listening) to see the term defaults available. These point fields can be changed, eg. Term 1 might be a date 3 weeks into the term, and Term 2 could be a two week period during the term - saving is automatic. To delete a range, click the blue cross to the right of the entries.
Data entered within the time periods shown will be gathered together in the other analysis areas so sets of data can be tracked then displayed in the provided tables and graphs. This can be 'clean' data, ie. exactly the same group of students for each time period, or with all students, eg. including arrivers and leavers. Data can also be entered any time outside of the assessment point dates entered; the purpose of the assessment point dates is for comparison and analysis over time.
Click the chevron on the heading row, and if previous assessment point data is available for comparison, this will display a link, and also "Mark new" for adding new results. Below each of the orange headings shows what's available in terms of displaying that data - for Sortable Results, Current Attainment or Cohort Tracking.
Cohort tracking displays a table with "Data" tab offering type of display preference, eg. a data table or bar graph, stanines; select assessment points (date ranges - can be more than one at a time) and Format field options of numbers or percentages. "Display" puts together those choices into the form using those selections. Mousing over a bar graph column gives further detail, eg. Term 4 2014. Each assessment point displays as a separate column for easy comparison, and the colour key shows the ethnicities represented in the graph.
Where a bar graph is selected, you'll see a new button on the top right of the graph "Chart context menu" which drops down available options for capturing the data, eg. PDF, .jpg etc.
